The specialized machine (green dual headed Thermatron) shown below was developed to do a large number of bar seals in a mattress pad. Instead of sealing the entire mattress in one stroke, which would have required over 100KW, it was more effective to join one RF heat sealer with a “dummy” press to seal one bar at a time. The most difficult challenge of this particular project was in the accuracy of the automated traveling base plate, which carried the materials for each individual seal.  When completed the specialized heat sealing machine was able to produce more sealed goods per hour than the companies existing RF heat sealing equipment.
